Reading

This week we introduced a new reading scheme during reading time. I realise that there are many students who enjoy their reading in English but it seems like some are simply not reading at this time. To try and encourage reading we have introduced a new scheme where students have been given short stories with comprehension questions to complete. Once students have completed a set of these books they will be given a prize. This has worked quite well so far this week so I hope students will continue to be excited by this.

Writing

We are currently getting some work together to potentially put in a book of writing from our class. I want the students to please type up some of the work from their writing notebook. They should be aware of this and can pick some work that they are proud of. I can help with some corrections. Students should bring this on their USB next week.

Grammar

In Grammar class this week we focused on different kinds of adverbs and adjectives. This has been really enjoyable for the students as they have been able to increase their vocabulary with new adjectives and adverbs which has improved and made our writing more interesting.

Trophies

We will be testing Trophies next week and the story this time is called ‘Coyote Places the Stars’. For this story the students should be prepared to talk about the purpose of the story and they should be able to summarize the story simply. Also, for this week the students will not be actually given the vocabulary words so they will need to know the following words:

Arranged, pride, canyon, skilful, feast, gazing and swiftly.

Students should be able to spell these words and be able to use them in a sentence.

Math

In math we have continued working with fractions, this week moving on to multiplication. In these lessons we have looked at how to multiplying two fractions, how to multiply mixed numbers and fractions, and how to multiply two mixed numbers together. Most students are finding this easy once they have understood the simple steps. I can make some simple instructions to review online for the students.
